About Sugarpine

Built for the dispensaries who bet on themselves.

Every dispensary is somebody's loan, somebody's lease, somebody's license on the line. Sugarpine is for the bold. For the operators who refuse to blend in.

The founders

Built by the right people, at the right time.

Rich and Scott have been friends, roommates, and business partners for more than 15 years. They started a web agency in San Diego back in 2011, then a startup that took them to Chile for Startup Chile in 2013.

The two kept in touch but went on to build successful careers across growth, e-commerce, technology, and AI. But they never lost the itch to build together “one day.”

Well, the day has come. They’re back at it with Sugarpine.

Scott Roehrick

Scott Roehrick

Co-founder, Chief Executive Officer

Scott's dad quit his job and started a landscaping business when Scott was a kid. It was a bold move, backed by a lot of hard work, early mornings and late nights. And it changed his family's life. Scott has been drawn to that kind of bet ever since.

He founded Tymber in 2018 to give cannabis retailers an alternative to the iframes and marketplaces that dominated e-commerce at the time. BLAZE acquired Tymber in 2023, and BLAZE ECOM was born. Scott spent the next three years scaling the platform as VP of E-Commerce, then nine months leading AI initiatives as VP of AI. Along the way, Marijuana Venture named him one of its 40 Under 40.

Today AI is changing what is possible in web design and local marketing, just as BLAZE has opened its ECOM API. Sugarpine is built at that intersection.

Rich Dullaghan

Co-founder, Chief Product Officer

Rich was GoFundMe's first growth hire in 2014. He built the marketing program from scratch, then spent the next nine years leading growth across 18 countries and running the international search program. Getting found on Google was the game there, and it is still the game for local businesses today.

Since 2022, Rich has built and grown products alongside a world-class growth team at Dropbox, and most recently led growth and AI initiatives at Expatrio, a regulated German financial services company.

He brings that same experimentation-driven approach to Sugarpine, combining a decade of growth experience with AI to dramatically increase what a small team can build, test, and ship.

At Sugarpine, his goal is simple: help great local businesses get found, get chosen, and get ahead.

Behind the brand

The tree above the canopy.

Scott grew up in the Sierra Nevada, where sugar pines are a defining part of the landscape. But you rarely see them growing in neat rows or dense stands. More often, there is one towering above the canopy: bigger, taller, and impossible to miss.

That is what we love about the sugar pine. It does not blend in. It stands out.

That is the feeling we want to bring to the businesses we work with. Dispensaries are competing for attention in an increasingly crowded market, and the best operators should not have to compete by looking like everyone else. Sugarpine exists to help them rise above the noise, get noticed, and build something people remember.

The name is also a nod to Tymber and our West Coast roots. Sugarpine carries that same connection to the outdoors and the places that shape us.

Our mark is five needles, because sugar pines bundle their needles in fives. One of them always rises above the rest.

Stand out. Rise above. Be the one people notice.

Pinus lambertiana, a third taller than the forest around it.
